I'm Dr. Tina Kaczor, a licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) and board-certified in naturopathic oncology (FABNO) since 2007. With over 25 years of experience in oncology, I have an intimate understanding of the challenges in cancer care. Like many, my family has been affected by cancer. Through both personal and professional experiences, I recognize that my approach to helping individuals with cancer should reflect the same dedication I would have for my loved ones facing this battle.
What does this mean?
This means I am fully committed to each person I work with. For me, statistics and prognosis take a backseat to your unique journey. If the prognosis states that 'only 2 out of a hundred people in your situation are alive in 5 years,' my focus shifts to how I can help you become one of those two. If you're looking for a FABNO near me, know that I'm here to advocate for you with the heart and expertise that define my practice.
My life has always been guided by my passion for science, particularly in health. The first indication may have been in second grade when other kids went home with games and toys from the school penny picnic; I came home with a microscope and a shrinking-head game. By eighth grade, I had declared my intention to pursue a health career.
In college, I immersed myself in the sciences, majoring in biochemistry due to my fascination with the chemistry of the body. It was the early 90s, during the exciting beginnings of molecular biology. I was fortunate to work under Dr. Mark O'Brian, a young plant physiologist. In his lab, my interest in molecular biology truly flourished. As the only undergraduate in the lab, I could have easily remained a glass cleaner and bacteria 'babysitter,' but Dr. O'Brian’s encouragement provided me the opportunity to conduct original experiments. Thanks to the mentorship of senior lab members (shout out to Indu and Sarita!), I discovered a novel gene in soybean essential for producing what resembles soybean hemoglobin. (Yes! Legumes produce their form of hemoglobin, called 'leghemoglobin.' Who knew?)
By the end of my undergraduate studies, I explored botanical medicine, concocting teas for friends and liniments for my grandma's arthritis. I became enamored with herbal medicine, but the conventional medical school path felt uninspiring to me.
At this turning point, like any confused 20-something, I paused. I took on various menial jobs in San Diego before heading to Spain to teach English as a second language. However, everything changed in 1996 when I discovered naturopathic medicine while browsing a college library near my parents' house. This revelation propelled me to declare my plans to attend naturopathic medical school, and from that moment on, I began my journey—one that led to my current focus in naturopathic oncology. After graduating from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, in 2000, I completed a two-year residency at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, laying a solid foundation for what has become my career and life's work.
In addition to my clinical practice, I’ve overseen the NaturalMedicineJournal.com as Medical Editor and now Editor in Chief since 2009. This monthly, open-access newsletter targets clinicians, though many patients find the cutting-edge information helpful as well. If you’re looking for content authored by me, just enter 'Dr. Kazor' along with your topic of interest into any search engine; just be sure to spell my last name correctly.
I’ve also served on the boards of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology Board of Medical Examiners (ABNOBoMEx). Moreover, I founded the Naturopathic Oncology Foundation and am the editor of the 'Textbook of Naturopathic Oncology: A Desktop Guide of Integrative Cancer Care.' If you're searching for 'FABNO near me', I’m proud to be a part of that community.
Round Table Cancer Care, led by Dr. Kazor, represents a culmination of what I've realized is most beneficial for everyone involved in cancer care. Collaboration is at the forefront of our approach. We respect the expertise of all participants in a person's treatment and understand that varying perspectives and opinions are valuable— and that's perfectly okay! When the patient's welfare is prioritized and communication flows well, the patient receives the best support and outcomes are optimized. I genuinely love being part of this process and feel honored to contribute. I believe, wholeheartedly, that each individual can outlive their prognosis. Sometimes miracles do occur, and if we keep our focus on living as well as possible for as long as possible, we're on the right path. For those searching for exceptional cancer care, especially with a fabno or looking for 'fabno near me,' our team at Round Table Cancer Care is dedicated to making a difference.
